Health Care Assistant
Our practice nurses see patients by appointment. They are involved in screening
programmes as well as taking blood samples, ear syringing, routine blood pressure
checks, undertaking electrocardiograms and cervical smears etc. They can offer
advice on numerous health topics. They also work closely with the GPs in managing
chronic illnesses including asthma, heart disease and diabetes. Our health care
assistant assists the nurses and works under their direction.
Other
Practice Staff
The practice also employs a deputy practice manager, IT manager, notes summariser,
medical secretary, morning and afternoon reception/administration staff to deal
with your enquiries and requests as efficiently as possible whilst respecting
your confidentiality at all times.
Health Visitors
There are two health visitors who cover the practice. They have special responsibilities
to mothers and children and are based at Sherwood House, Chesham (Tel: 01494
783991). They are employed by Buckinghamshire PCT.
Community Nurses
The community team of nurses (district nurses) care for patients who need nursing
at home and are based at The New Surgery site. They can usually be contacted
by leaving a message at reception or by calling the surgery on 01494 782262.
They are employed by Buckinghamshire PCT.
Training
Practice
We are an Oxford Region training practice and usually have a GP registrar with
us for a year's training. GP registrars are qualified doctors who have undergone
substantial training in hospital and then spend a year in an appointed general
practice. Occasionally video recordings of consultations are made for teaching
purposes. Only doctors view these. You will always be told when a video is being
made. Please tell us if you would rather not take part. As a training practice,
other doctors from outside the district regularly assess The New Surgery, in
the course of which they need to view some medical records. If you are unhappy
with this, please let us know and we will ensure that your records are not used
for assessment purposes.
